Why not make a conscious preference to buy British during the next year?

Manufacturing in the UK allows companies to control supply, guarantee quality, offer flexibility and to be ethical and environmentally sound.

You or your company or organisation can support British companies and British jobs and be environmentally friendly (by reducing your carbon footprint through reducing the miles goods are transported) by buying British.

I hope you find ukmade useful and enjoyable 🙂

Garden furniture, deck chairs and garden related products made in Great Britain

Southsea Deckchairs make deckchairs, parasols, sauna chairs, folding tables, windbreaks, folding stools, replacement deckchair fabric and so on. They also sell deckchair fabric by the metre, hire deckchairs and make branded deckchairs. They have been making deckchairs for the last 20 years in Portsmouth, England. Their range of resin furniture is imported. When I asked them about their UK manufacture in November 2012 they replied as follows: “Assembly work, finishing, sewing, fittings, QC, is all done in the UK. Some of the work is outsourced”. I’m pleased they are honest about their sourcing. Southsea deckchairs are used on the majority of beaches and promenades up and down the UK. They also export. As some work is outsourced and country of origin is not given on their website against individual products, please check where you deckchair or whatever you are interested in from them is made before buying.

Marmax Products is a UK manufacturer of 100% UK recycled plastic, low maintenance outdoor furniture, planters, fencing and boardwalks.  Prices on their website do not include VAT or delivery.   They are not the only people who make re-cycled plastic furniture and the like in the UK, I just happened to come across this company first when searching the net.  This looks like a really good idea because the products are very durable.  It is marketed primarily at institutions, local government and businesses.

Haddonstone cast stone (or artificial stone) garden ornaments and building materials for build, restoration, garden, landscape, memorial, and fireplaces are made in the UK and the USA by Haddonstone. In the UK they have a factory at Brixworth in Northamptonshire. On their website they say “Each design is hand made by Haddonstone in the UK or US…” and “British made – every design is hand made in Northamptonshire”. No country of origin information is given against individual products on their website and whilst I assume products for the British market are those sold in the UK and that everything is made in the UK, it would be wise to check before buying – http://www.haddonstone.com

The Handmade Garden Shed Company exclusive hand-crafted sheds are made in Devon, England according to their Twitter stream – http://www.handmadegardenshed.co.uk

Gap Garden Products garden structures and equipment- “All Gap Garden Products are made in their factory in Kettering using the best quality materials.” Not all individual products on their website show country of origin, so I advice checking where something is made before buying. Products include metal garden arches, garden tunnels, gazebos, garden towers, planters, garden furniture, boot scrapers, boot racks, garden incinerators, weathervanes, bird feeder hooks, etc. They are also the makers of products marketed under the brand name Poppyforgehttp://www.gapgardenproducts.com

I don’t know what else they might make in England, as they currently (as of May 2017) have no working website. I saw these wine glass holders in the National Trust shop on Dunstable Downs.
