Clothing made in the UK – British clothes manufacturers and British Made Clothes – UK made clothes and accessories. Who made your clothes?

British made menswear, British made womenswear, British made children’s clothes.  Clothing made in the UK.

Is ANYTHING you’re wearing made in Britain?

#BuyBritishMadeClothes  #UKMadeClothes  #ClothesMadeInTheUK #BritishMadeClothes

This article on British made clothes is very comprehensive – please give it a few seconds to load.

You may wish to use ‘find on page’ in your browser to help you look for something in particular.

I sense a revival of British clothes manufacturing. Much has gone, but there is still a fantastic choice of British made clothes out there, whether you want to spend a lot or not very much money.

Here you can find links and information, in no particular order, about British made clothes, for men, women and children. This article is ongoing and I will add to it when I discover more British clothes manufacturers and suppliers. Only companies that actually make or supply clothes made in the UK will be featured here, not simply companies that used to make clothes in the UK or are just selling clothes in the UK. The products I list here are genuinely made in the UK, not simply labelled to imply British heritage or manufacture.

LIFESAVER Systems made in Great Britain

LIFESAVER Systems are a British Company. On their website they say that they “…Invent, Design & Manufacture all of” their “products in Great Britain”. They serve 3 main markets: Humanitarian, Leisure & Military, making hand-pump action filtering water bottles, gerry cans, cubes, and such that remove bacteria, viruses, cysts, parasites, fungi and waterborne pathogens from dirty water to produce sterile drinking water in seconds. I came across this company on the net and have not seen their products but they look very useful and for example have been used following the earthquakes in Napal in May 2015. Have a look at the video below to get an idea of how they work.

They make SeaSafe Foul Weather Coats and Life Jackets, as well as the physical safety components of the life jacket. Off-the-peg or bespoke. They are in the process of updating their website to show which products they make in their factory in Cowes which should make it easier for their customers, and British made products on their website either say “made in Britain” in the description or carry the “made in Britain” logo. They also sell foreign made products, such as Draper tools, life rafts, SOLAS Lights, and Corporate Clothing – http://www.seasafe.co.uk

Darts, Dart Boards and Darts Accessories Made in the UK

If you’re a budding Bristow buy British made darts…

Harrows Darts is the world’s leading and most widely distributed darts brand and the only major darts brand maintaining production in England. If buying Harrows darts accessories and such items please check these are UK made, as I am not sure for some products, although all the accessories i have seen are British made – http://www.harrows-darts.com*

Bulls Eye Darts are all made in the UK. Available on their website.  I note the website / company are currently for sale and I assume from this that their darts are manufactured for them as no mention is made of their production facilities (elsewhere they also talk about their manufacturers; which confirms this). In their FAQs it says “Are your darts made in the UK? Yes all our darts are professionally engineered in the UK using the finest products” – http://www.bullseyedarts.co.uk

As far as I know Bulls Eye Darts are unconnected with Bullseye, the 80s TV game show with Jim Bowen and Bully.

There is a possibility that some Target darts are made in the UK, as I have read on the net that they have production facilities in China and the UK. I have written to the company to clarify this, as their About and FAQ parts of their website do not work, but have had no response. The About section of their website is now working, but they give no county of origin information. I have seen a photograph on the web that shows a packet of Target darts as having been made in China, so do check before buying – http://www.target-darts.co.uk

Decathlon, a French company with sports stores in the UK and worldwide, own brand Geologic and Canaveral darts and darts feathers and shafts are made in the UK. No country of information information is given on their website, but you can look at the packaging in store to check country of origin before buying – https://www.decathlon.co.uk

Winmau darts and dart boards are made in Kenya. They do not giving any information about country of manufacture on their website. Winmau are owned by Nodor who also do not give any information about country of manufacture on their website and presumably all their manufacturing is also abroad. The little Union flag on their logo is therefore misleading.

Unicorn darts and dart boards are made in China. I understand the company moved production to China in 1999. Prior to that Unicorn Darts were British made and it is a shame Unicorn darts are now all made in China.

Vintage set of Unicorn Darts Of Distinction, Made in England by Unicorn Products Limited. Unfortunately today Unicorn darts and dartboards are all foreign made.

Datadart don’t give any country of origin information about their darts or darts accessories on their website (which suggests they are foreign made), but it would be worth checking with them just in case they are made in the UK. I have seen a couple of articles on the web suggesting they are.

Mitchell Sydney Swans Afl Team Darts are designed in Australia and made in England. The packaging says Made in England. That’s about all I know about these darts (I found them on eBay and on a website called Mal Atwell).

Does anyone know of any other British made darts please?  Or British made dart boards?  Or British made darts accessories?

Miles Stronger – British Sports Shop – MilesStronger.

Miles Stronger is one of my followers on twitter. I have not tried this company’s products myself but it all looks very impressive and apparently everything they sell is made in Britain which is impressive too. British made runners clothing, British made energy drinks and British made energy bars. A site selling British made running gear – I am very excited to find this.

Snugpak – insulated clothing and sleeping bags – some products are UK made

http://www.snugpak.com – Snugpak do a range of great sleeping bags – take care to choose the manufactured in the United Kingdom ones though.  They also do great UK made cloths (just some jackets, trousers and hats are made in the UK), so likewise with their clothing take care to choose made in the UK. Items that are UK made are clearly labelled as so on their website. You can even filter to just UK made products.  Only some clothes, some sleeping bags, some bivvi bags, some sleeping bag accessories, some hammock blankets, and a stuff sack are UK made; everything else they sell is imported.

Snugpak are based in the heart of the beautiful Yorkshire countryside. The Sleeka jacket below is made in Yorshire.  It is made using a fabric they call Paratex Light which is lightweight, windproof, water repellant, breathable and wicks moisture and is insulated with their Softie Premier Insulation (which was developed and is actually made in Switzerland). This retains heat even when wet, is washable and high loft. It comes with its own stuff sack. The minimum temperature range given is -5C (comfort) and -10C (Extreme). Long enough and very lightweight (170g). The Sleeker has 2 large zipped outer handwarmer pockets and a large zipped internal pocket. The Snugpak Sleeker is simply a fab jacket and mine gets a lot of use.

They have a specific military website at http://www.snugpak.com/military/

British Gunmakers and guns and clay pigeon trap makers + British Made Gun Cabinets

Established in 1883 William Evans are a gunmaker (gunsmiths) in St james’s, London or a gun assembler / finisher in any case and also sell some British made clothing for men and woman. If it is made in the UK this is specified on the website; otherwise it is not. Particularly some of their own brand is made in the UK. A little Union Flag also appears to also signify made in the UK, but as always, do check before buying. They do not say who makes their clothing for them. Also some accessories, homeware and gifts at William Evans are made in the UK. They also stock MUSTO, but I suspect this is made abroad.

Launched in 2010, Longthorne Gunmakers is another manufacturer of 100% English made shotguns. They say on their website “we manufacture every part of our guns in house” – http://www.longthorneguns.com

As far as I know Webley Revolvers and Enfield Revolvers, which were made in Birmingham and London respectively and were military service weapons in the UK for many years, are no longer being made. Some British military weapons and other equipment and uniform are still made in the UK but all their sidearms are now foreign made. In 2013 the Austrian made Glock 17 9mm pistol replaced the US made Browning 9mm pistol which has been in service since 1967 for most UK forces.

Webley & Scott is still an arms manufacturer, founded in Birmingham, England. Webley produced handguns and long guns from 1834 to 1979, when the company ceased to manufacture firearms and instead focused on producing air pistols and air rifles. In 2010 Webley & Scott restarted the production of shotguns for commercial sale. It was particularly famous as one of the makers of British military service revolvers, from 1887 until 1963. After 1921, however, Webley service revolvers were manufactured by the government-owned Royal Small Arms Factory in Enfield. The Webley company was re-branded as Webley and Scott in 2010. At some point production was moved abroad, with their website now saying their products are designed in the UK for all the products I looked at.

The Martini–Henry was a rifle that was used by the British Army. It first entered service in 1871, and was made by Royal Small Arms Factory, Enfield, London (which following privatisation closed down in 1988). Previously the Royal Small Arms Factory (RSAF) in Enfield had made Snider-Enfield riffles. According to Wikipedia “The Martini–Henry was copied on a large scale by North-West Frontier Province gunsmiths” and such weapons were called “Pass-made rifles”. What is referred to as a Martini action was used by Martini-Henry and other manufacturers such as WW Greening and BSA. A Martini action has an external lever to allow for breach loading.

The Birmingham Small Arms Company Limited (BSA) was a major British industrial combine, a group of businesses manufacturing military and sporting firearms; bicycles; motorcycles; cars; buses and bodies; steel; iron castings; hand, power, and machine tools; coal cleaning and handling plants; sintered metals; and hard chrome process. Following financial difficulties in the 1970s the company has closed down and parts sold off to others. BSA manufactured in the UK, amongst other things, bicycles (sold off to Raleigh), bicycle parts (including Sturmey Archer gear hubs under licence), motorbikes, ammunition, small arms, sporting firearms, cars (including owning Daimler at one point), trucks, car bodies, Lewis Automatic Machine Guns, aero engines, aircraft, armoured vehicles, canons, Lee–Enfield service rifles (which were also made by other manufacturers), Sten sub-machine guns, and more.

Winchester rifles, a US company, were shipped to the UK from the USA during the second world war. Winchester rifles may also have been made in Britain at one point but I am unsure about this.

W.W. Greener is a sporting shotgun and rifle manufacturer in England. The company produced its first firearm in 1829 and was sold to Webley in 1965 and the factory closed down. In 1985 the company name was brought by its current owners and production re-started in the Midlands. According to their website “today the company still makes the finest sporting shotguns and rifles in its Midlands workshops” – http://www.wwgreener.com

The fictional James Bond used an Italian made Beretta handgun and later a German made Walther PPK (and later variants of this) mostly in the books. In the films it’s mostly a Beretta occasionally and more often a Walther PPK (and later variants of this). In recent films he has also used a Heckler & Koch VP9 pistol which is presumably German made and a Glock 17 pistol which is presumably Austrian made.

Accuracy International of Portsmouth, best know for their sniper rifles, might manufacture in the UK. The only only manufacturing site specifically mentioned on their website is in the USA though.

German company Heckler and Koch, formerly owned by BAE Systems and the manufacturer of SA80 rifles, own the Nottingham Small Arms Factory where they make SA80 rifles for the British Army.

Acorn Traps make their automatic clay pigeon traps in Britain – http://www.acorntraps.co.uk

Air Arms manufacture all of their air guns in the UK I am told. No mention of this is made on their website, but some of the pictures on the site clearly show the words “Made in England” on some products, so it seems at least some of their air guns are possibly UK made and is worth checking – http://www.air-arms.co.uk

SMP Security Solutions are British safe manufacturers. They make cash safes, security cabinets, steel security doors, jewellery safes, underfloor safes, drugs cabinets, gun cabinets, etc. Their website has the Made in Britain marque and they describe their safes as a “quality British made product from a trusted security safes manufacturer” – http://www.smpsecurity.co.uk

According to their website “All our Furniture in handcrafted in the United Kingdom by our skilled craftsmen and hand finished to the highest standards creating truly timeless pieces of period furniture.” They also make gun cabinets of steel but disguised as pieces of fine furniture. Of these they say “Our Unique Cabinets are produced in a choice of 5 different wood finishes and are handcrafted in the UK by our skilled craftsmen and hand finished to the highest standards” – http://www.21stantiques.com

Brattonsound Gunsafes, established in 1982, are British made. Their website carries the words ‘Made in Britain’ and a little round Union Flag logo and they say “our products are proudly manufactured and distributed from our state of the art factory in Surrey”. These metal gun safes are available from gun shops across the UK and Brattonsound does not sell direct to the public – http://www.brattonsound.co.uk

The Bespoke Furniture Company / The Bespoke Gun Cabinet Company specialise in exclusive bespoke gun cabinets, radiator cabinets and furniture. They say on their website “From our purpose-built workshop in Warwickshire we create beautiful pieces of furniture with meticulous attention to detail that would rival any other company in our field”. They make wooden furniture for kitchens, home offices, games rooms, bedrooms, etc plus radiator cabinets and gun cabinets designed to look like a piece of furniture but wit a metal gunsafe inside – http://www.thebespokefurniturecompany.co.uk – http://www.thebespokeguncabinetcompany.co.uk

Simon Reynolds Cabinetmaker offers bespoke handmade furniture that appears to all be made in his workshop in Norfolk. Items made include wooden gun cabinets (designed to have a metal unsafe inside), gun maintenance tables, field gun chests, dining tables, trophy and display cabinets, sideboards, chests of drawers, blanket boxes,  coffee tables, dressers, occasional furniture, fitted cupboards, dining chairs and footstools. No idea of the prices – http://www.simonreynoldscabinetmaker.co.uk

Retro Football Shirts | Vintage Classic Kits, Old Fashioned Historical Soccer Jerseys.

TOFFS is The Old Fashioned Football Shirt Company.  They manufacture retro football shirts from the UK and all over the world in Gateshead, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, England. I’ve not seen their shirts, except perhaps on Gavin and Stacey, but they look good. Whether all their football shirts and accessories are made in the UK I am not sure, so please check before buying.  It says on their twitter page “We manufacture retro football shirts from over 100 years of history, here in the UK” which implies that at least their football shirts are made in the UK.

https://twitter.com/toffsretro

I asked Toffs about where their products were made via twitter – “@toffsretro Are all your football shirts made in the UK? What about the other stuff you sell? Thanks”

Their prompt reply was as follows – “@BritishGoods They are yes! Everything except the England & Liverpool shirts (which we buy in) is handmade here in Gateshead!”

Great stuff 🙂 but take note about the England and Liverpool shirts.

Rab sleeping bags are hand filled in their Alfreton warehouse (none of their clothing or other gear is made in the UK). I am not sure that really counts as being made in England though! Still though at least they are filled in the UK, so that’s good.
