I’ve shopped at the Body Shop for many years and pretty much everything I bought was always made in the UK. However I now notice that pretty much everything I bought the other day was made abroad, except for the deodorant I got which was made in the UK. The rest was made in Hungary, Switzerland or the USA. This is very disappointing and I will now be looking for a new supplier for my wash stuff. If you are buying anything in the Body Shop you will now need to check if it is from the UK or not, if you want to buy British. For the moment at least many products in the Body Shop are still made in the UK. Country of origin information is not given on their website. The Body Shop is owned by French company L’Oréal and many Body Shop products are now made in France.
I asked the Body Shop about manufacturing in the UK and this was their response – “We are a global retailer and as such manufacture our products in many countries” – basically they are saying they have shifted some or all production abroad – what a shame 😦 That said though, if you read the labels carefully, you can still buy British made products in the Body Shop.
