James Aubrey – Made in Britain (well most of it!)

James Aubrey – Made in Britain.

“Made in Britain using the best of British fabrics & manufacturing wherever possible” according to their website.  Everything I have seen from James Aubrey is made in the UK, but their website is clear about the fact that some of their products (for example their shirts) are not made in the UK, so as always please select carefully only those things that are really made in the UK.

I was looking at their reasonably priced British wool made in Britain men’s jumpers yesterday (December 29th 2012) in Daniel of Windsor Department Store and they look fab.

James Aubrey make and sell very nice men’s duffle coats, reefer coats, overcoats, tweed sports jackets, wax jackets, knitwear, shirts, trousers and accessories.  Their waxed jackets uses fabric made by The British Millerain Co. Ltd and they use Abraham Moon fabric in their tweed jackets.

Additional – Their products are available in “in a number of leading independent stores around the country.” Their website went “informational only” in September last (although strangely most of the information on it has been removed!) and their products are no longer available online.  Further additional – Unfortunately James Aubrey is no longer trading (as of 5/10/16 when I looked at their website).

British Pants and Knickers – British Made Underwear for men and women (and British made swimwear)

Shops like M&S no longer sell British made underwear and it is hard to find underwear that is made in the UK. However there is still some great British made underwear made. Here are a few possibilities (in no particular order) for British made underpants and swimwear:

Kiniki Franco Boxer Black

Kiniki Franco Boxer Black. Made in England.

*Kiniki (JW Walker Limited) make very good quality underwear for men and swimwear for men and women at a good price and come highly recommended.  They are perhaps most famous for making tan though swimwear.  Designed, manufactured and dispatched from their factory in Staffordshire, England. Each and every pair of their mens underwear & mens & womens Tan Through swimwear is made in England. However, currently all their ladies (bamboo) underwear is made in Turkey. Kinki plans that in future their womens underwear will once again be made in their factory in England, so keep an eye out for that. The Bolin razors they sell are made in England. However the socks, bags and suncare cream they sell are foreign made – http://www.kiniki.com

British Made Soft Furnishings, Furnishing Fabrics, Haberdashery, Antimacassars, Chair Arm Covers, and Cushions

The Tube seat fabric is known as moquette, a mix of wool with a small percentage of polyester, and well known for its hard wearing, durable, fire resistant and not-showing-the-dirt qualities, is still woven in Yorkshire. You can buy dog collars and coats using the fabric at the London Transport Museum, as well as furniture, cushions, technology cases, bags, handbags, key rings, wash bags, etc made using moquette. These are made in England by Matt Fothergill using moquette fabric. Whilst a lot of stuff in the London Transport Museum Shop is made in China, they do stock a very good range of UK made products too – http://www.ltmuseumshop.co.uk/moquette.html

Hotter Shoes

Hotter HAZE XS Ladies walking Boot. Made in England

Hotter Shoes – http://www.hottershoes.com – have a factory in Lancashire, England but some of their products are made abroad.  The company state a desire to increase production in the UK, so let’s hope they do that.  Their shoes are reasonably priced, but regrettably on their website they do not say which shoes are made in England.  You can ask or visit one of their shops and the shoes themselves state the country of origin.  I was in their Windsor shop yesterday (29.12.12) and every pair of shoes I picked up was made in England. They have a very impressive range of ladies and mens shoes, boots and slippers. They all look super comfortable and the prices are very reasonable.  This is a shoe brand that is well worth checking out and I will be back in their shop soon to buy some shoes I am sure.  Highly recommended.  Hotter are now (26.3.13) saying “all our shoes are designed and produced here in the UK”, however I understand some use Italian leather and some, despite this statement, are actually made in Italy. Hotter is now the UK’s biggest shoe manufacturer.

My new Hotter Cutlass shoes arrived today (14.2.13) – made in England – the box they came in is made in England too.  They even came with a free shoe horn.  Super comfy, very lightweight, great quality.  Fab.
