Toothbrushes and Toothpaste Made in the UK

Toothbrushes – Not many toothbrushes are made in the UK anymore 😦

The few ones I know of are The Handmade Classic, KB42L and Smokers (and only these ones) from Kent Brushes which are made in the UK.

and D.R. Harris bone handled toothbrushes are made in the UK.

I used to always buy Wisdom toothbrushes because they were made in the UK but sadly they are not manufacturing toothbrushes in the UK anymore. Their factory is in Haverhill, Suffolk is now closed. Wisdom have told me “All Wisdom toothbrushes are now manufactured outside of the UK”. Wisdom still emphasise their British heritage on their website, but Wisdom no longer make toothbrushes in the UK. Oral B, part of Procter & Gamble make some of their products in Southern Ireland, some of which such as their dental floss are labelled “Made in Ireland” – but here they are referring to Southern Ireland which is not part of the UK. Sensodyne, park of GSK GlaxoSmithKline, do not give country of origin on their toothbrushes but they are foreign made.

Are there any other toothbrushes made in the UK that you know of please?

Toothpaste made in the UK is still available.

Colgate may still manufacture some toothpaste in the UK but often USA company Colgate-Palmolive do not bother to label country of origin on their products so we don’t really know.

Arm & Hammer by Church & Dwight, an American manufacturer of household products do label country of origin on their products and some are made in the UK like their Advance White toothpaste and Batiste dry shampoo. On their UK website Church and Dwight say it “has a factory located in Folkestone which manufactures the majority of the product portfolio” – http://www.churchdwight.co.uk

Hi, if you take a look at KentBrushes.com, they list toothbrushes. Check out the product photos and enlarge you will see that they still make toothbrushes in the UK. Hope this is of help for people like me who like to buy British :

Thanks for the useful feedback. I would love to find a British made toothbrush if I could. I have heard that Kent Brushes make about half of what they sell in the UK and the rest of their products are made abroad. I have just written to them to ask about the country of origin of their toothbrushes and with luck they will write back to me. I will update if I find out. Keep buying British when you can.

I always used to buy Wisdom toothbrushes because they were made in the UK. Sadly Wisdom toothbrushes are not made in the UK anymore. The company have told me this.

Tony. I checked with Kent Brushes and some of their toothbrushes are indeed made in the UK. I will update my comment on toothbrushes to reflect this. Thanks.

On 31 Jan 2013 Karl said – “Aren’t Wisdom Toothbrushes made in the uk? Pretty sure that their factory is in Haverhill, Suffolk.”

I replied – “Hi Karl. Thank you for your comment. They were up until fairly recently, but sadly not anymore. I asked Wisdom the other day and they responded “All Wisdom toothbrushes are now manufactured outside of the UK”. Wisdom still emphasise their British heritage on their website, but Wisdom no longer make toothbrushes in the UK. I used to always buy Wisdom toothbrushes because they were made in the UK but there is no point in doing that anymore. The only UK made toothbrushes I can find are the Kent Brushes ones I mention above, so I guess I will buy these in the future although at £4 or more each they are not cheap and there are only 4 to choose from.”

On 4 Feb 2013 Abi said in reference to my Been and Gone page – “You haven’t actually mentioned Kent toothbrushes above – it just says there are no UK made toothbrushes (so I was about to make a comment about them here!)”

I replied – “I had forgotten I had mentioned toothbrushes here! I have removed the mention here. Please see my article on toothbrushes on my home page. Thank for pointing it out – I was wondering why I could see these replies!”

Hence, I have copied and pasted this conversation here. Thank you for your comments.

Having been on to Kent’s about it, its “Refresh” toothbrush range (the cheaper 1’s in their range) are made “overseas” (which probably means China), & the other more expensive 1’s are still made at their Works in England.

You’re quite right. Kent also told me that it is just the Handmade Classic, the KB42L and the Smokers toothbrushes that are made in the UK. Their cheaper toothbrushes are made abroad.
